With the last game of pre season just hours away, the question remains, who will Frank Lampard pick to be his starting XI when The Rams head to the Madejski Stadium next Friday to take on Reading?

There has been some good performances, especially from those players who have been drafted in from the un23s; as well as the new signings which have been brought in.

In this article I will put who I would have as my starting XI.

Lampard has gone with a 433 formation for all 4 pre season games so far, so I will base my selection on this formation.

Goalkeeper

Scott Carson – the only real choice for me. He was consistent last season and kept 19 clean sheets in 44 appearances. He won Derby so many points last season and his performances suggested he could get a call up to the England squad.

Left Back

Max Lowe – Lowe has had an impressive pre season, no more so than against Southampton. He has been a rock defensively and very creative in attack. He has been plagued with injury but looks to have overcome this. He looks as if he has been training hard in the gym and has put some bulk on.

Centre Back

Curtis Davies – Mr reliable last season. I want to see him as captain again this season. After being given the armband in the second half of last season his performances improved as did the teams.

Centre Back

Andre Wisdom – This may split opinions as I have chosen him instead of Keogh, but Wisdom impressed me vastly when he played centre back against Mansfield. He is aggressive and is quick, a quality that could well be invaluable when facing a pacey striker. He played a season in Austria at centre back so does have experience there.

Right Back

Jayden Bogle – The academy product has impressed not just me but other Rams fans in pre season. At 17 he has stepped up and produced confident and capable performances. He has linked up well in attack and is not scared to run past defenders. He is also quick and strong in defence.

Defensive Midfielder

Tom Huddlestone – This position was a tough one to pick. Ultimately it came down to either Ledley or Huddlestone. I have gone with Huddlestone as I feel he can always provide a killer pass and dictate games from midfield.

Central Midfielder

Craig Bryson – A player Derby missed last season, his energy in midfield not only going forward but also coming back in defence. This is another reason why I chose Huddlestone over Ledley because with Bryson in midfield we will be more defensively solid.

Central Midfielder

Mason Mount – Another midfielder who is just like Bryson. Rams fans saw the videos on YouTube of his goals, but one thing they didn’t see was his work rate. He isn’t scared to get stuck in a put in a tackle and is also willing to come deep to pick up the ball and start an attack.

Left Wing

Tom Lawrence – Has looked a totally different player to the one we signed last season. Has looked like the Tom Lawrence that shone for Ipswich 2 seasons ago. His confidence has grown under Lampard. As seen in pre season he has become more direct when running at players and more clinical in front of goal.

Right Wing

Harry Wilson – New boy signed by Lampard. He came straight in to the team against Southampton. He impressed me with his direct running but also his eye for a pass. He link up well with the rest of his midfielders and looked a threat whenever he was on the ball.

Centre Forward

Jack Marriott – He has been Lampard’s number 1 target since the transfer window opened. I believe his in an upgrade on Nugent and Jerome. He is full of energy and will play on the shoulder of the defender. He will also not stop harassing defenders when he hasn’t got the ball. He scored 33 goals for Peterborough last season so he definitely has an eye for goal.

Substitutes

Mitchell, Keogh, Thomas, Johnson, Bennett, Jozefoon, Nugent
